Via deze webpagina kunt u voorbeeldpagina's bekijken van de in Nijmegen gemaakte woordenboeken. Ik heb deze voorbeeldpagina's als pdf-bestanden beschikbaar gemaakt. U kunt pagina's uit beide delen bekijken.

Inleiding

In addition to these bilingual pages I have added some pages containing Arabic as source language only, without any target language translations, since I can imagine some readers will have a limited command of the Dutch language. In order to illustrate the richness of the Arabic lexical corpus it might be useful to exclude the possibly distracting Dutch translations.

These pages do not have the same lay-out, since they have not been produced with the DTP program with which the dictionaries were produced. These pages have been created by exporting data from our database into Word in rtf-format.

Naast deze tweetalige pagina's heb ik ook wat pagina's opgenomen die alleen maar Arabisch bevatten, zonder er vertalingen bij te zetten, rekening houdend met lezers die geen Nederlands beheersen en die door het Nederlands alleen maar afgeleid worden. De rijkdom van het Arabische lexicale bestand is zo goed te zien.

Deze eentalige pagina's hebben niet dezelfde lay-out als de pagina's uit het woordenboek want de eentalige pagina's zijn niet met een DTP-programma gemaakt. Ze zijn gemaakt door data uit de database te exporteren in rtf-formaat, ze te importeren in  Word om er pdf-bestanden van te maken.

Voor de volledigheid heb ik ook enkele pagina's opgenomen met alleen maar Nederlandse data, zonder dat er vertalingen bij staan.

As described and argued elsewhere on this site, both parts of our dictionaries are bi-directional, i.e. they are both intended to be used by two groups of users, i.e. to serve as a dictionary for production and comprehension. It would of course be preferable to produce separate dictionaries for both functions. However, since  the market in the Dutch speaking countries is limited, such a diversification would result in very high prices in order to make such a project profitable for a publisher.

However, in an electronic version of the dictionaries the user could be enabled to choose which type of information he wants to consult.

The interface could provide the user with a choice between production in the target language, or comprehension of the source language. In the first case, all target information should be provided, in the latter case target information could be skipped.

Zoals elders op deze website beschreven, zijn beide delen van ons woordenboek bi-directioneel, d.w.z. dat ze bedoeld zijn te worden gebruikt door twee groepen gebruikers, ze moeten dienen als begrijpwoordenboek en productiewoordenboek. Het zou uiteraard beter zijn om voor beide functies aparte woordenboeken te drukken, maar aangezien markt in Nederlandstalige landen beperkt is, zou zo'n differentiatie leiden tot zeer hoge prijzen om het voor een uitgever nog financieel haalbaar te maken.

Maar in een electronische versie van het woordenboek zou het natuurlijk wel mogelijk zijn dat de gebruiker kan aangeven welk soort informatie hij op het scherm wenst te zien.

Het programma zou de gebruiker de keuze kunnen geven tussen productie (spreken of schrijven) in de doeltaal, of begrijpen (luisteren, lezen) in de brontaal. In het eerste geval is er zoveel mogelijk informatie over de doeltaal van belang. In het laatste geval kan die informatie achterwege worden gelaten.

An electronic version of the dictionary is available for internal use only. It was created as a by-product during the programming stage for extracting the data from the database. The screen dumps below show the use of the electronic version with both Dutch and Arabic as source language.

The working title of this program is 'Kamal' since the programmer added an icon showing the word 'kamal' (كمال), not knowing the meaning of the word. I would not dare to state that our dictionaries are complete and/or perfect.

It is not certain yet if and when this electronic edition of the dictionary will be available on the market.

Er is een electronische versie van het woordenboek voor intern gebruik beschikbaar. Het is als bij-product gemaakt door de programmeur die de data uit de database wilde halen voor het maken van het zetwerk. De onderstaande schermafbeeldingen tonen hoe die electronische versie eruit ziet.

De werktitel voor dit programma is 'Kamal' want de programmeur had een icoon met het woord 'kamal' (كمال) aan het programma gekoppeld. Hij wist echter niet wat het betekende want ik zou niet durven beweren dat onze woordenboeken compleet en/of perfect zijn.

Het is nog niet zeker of en wanneer deze electronische versie van het woordenboek op de markt zal komen.
